Program Information

BEOC offers tuition-free academic and career programs to prepare students for college and employment. Our faculty and staff work in partnership with students to create academic success. All classes include computer-aided learning.

BEOC offers day and evening classes (course schedules will vary). The fall and spring semesters are 15 weeks each, and the summer session is 7.5 weeks.

  • Fall semester – late August to the end of December
  • Spring semester – early February to early June
  • Summer session – late June to mid-August (only those courses indicated)

Modules 1, 2, and 3 are all required components of the BEOC program. Each module is graded and must be successfully completed to graduate, be recognized as a program completer, and qualify for certification testing. Module 3, in particular, is not optional or separate-it is an essential part of the program sequence. Completion is determined by passing all required courses across all modules, not by the number of weeks attended.

College Preparation

Morning classes run for 7.5 - 15 weeks.

English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) 

Evening classes run for 15-30 weeks.

Morning and evening classes run for 3-5 weeks.

School Closing Information

BEOC follows the emergency closing policy of its administering college, New York City College of Technology, CUNY. During inclement weather, or emergency closings, check announcements at www.sunybeoc.org or www.citytech.cuny.edu.

BEOC staff and faculty may also be notified by CUNY Alert for closings that apply throughout the University. BEOC students will receive notification of emergency closing by email or Brightspace posting

What programs does BEOC offer?

We offer academic and career training programs. Applicants can enroll in short or long term programs, depending on your goals, education and work history.

How long do programs and/or classes last?

All classes/programs differ in length. See program descriptions for more information.

Can I enroll in more than one program at a time?

You can only enroll in one program at a time, but students enrolled in ESL or High School Equivalency may continue on to other programs.

Does BEOC offer college credits?

All of BEOC’s programs are non-credit certifications only.

Are BEOC programs approved by HRA or the Department of Labor for unemployment?

Yes, our programs are approved.

When do classes start?

Most classes begin in late August or early February; however, College Prep and some short programs have various start dates throughout the year. You can apply any time and will be processed for the next start date. Applicants who are accepted early can participate in JumpStart, Computer Boot Camp or other certification programs in the ATTAIN lab.

Does BEOC have weekend classes?

Day classes are held Monday through Friday
Evening classes are held Monday through Thursday

Can I take day and evening classes based on my work schedule?

Applicants must select either the day or evening schedule when applying. However, students with particular scheduling needs should speak to a student advisor.

Does BEOC offer computer classes?

All of our programs are computer-based. Students can get help in basic computer literacy, including advanced coursework depending on your program.

Are BEOC programs free?

Yes! BEOC programs are tuition-free for eligible New York State residents. BEOC is funded by New York State.

What do I have to pay for?

All students pay a refundable book deposit and provide their own basic supplies, like notebooks, etc.
